Remarks

Matthias Kamp, M.D. and Founder of the Medical Scientific Group (MWF) of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends

Spiritual healing is not a subject that is disseminated to the public in an impartial and serious manner. Even the prospective doctor is not informed about its historical background and possibilities of the spiritual way during his years of study. And yet healing through a Higher Power is the oldest method of restoring health and has featured in all the advanced cultures of the past. The books of the dominant religions tell of a Divine, spiritual power which is the foundation of every form of life and can heal. In India it is called prana, in China, chi, and even the fathers of contemporary medicine were aware of the existence of a higher energy. Vitality ("vis vitalis") the "inner doctor" was a self-evident fact for Paracelsus, the prominent physician at the dawn of modern times, whose name still today features in the designation of clinics and pharmacies. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, also referred to it.

Today vitality, or vital energy, is a taboo in scientific circles. It is left to the ever-expanding esoteric scene to instruct the public about the effects and possibilities of Higher healing powers. Only in England, Holland and some Swiss cantons is spiritual healing legally permitted. In other countries, lawmakers avoid their duty of building bridges and striking out along new ways for the many sick people who, in addition to orthodox medicine, seek alternative healing routes.

But in view of the steadily increasing number of chronic illnesses it can no longer be condoned that not only wide sections of the population but also most doctors know nothing about the possibilities and limits of serious spiritual healing. Under pressure of extreme suffering, many sick people place themselves in the hands of any healer, without being able to distinguish between a charlatan and a healer who is reliable.

The basis of this book is a selection of concise reports from the network of one of the world’s largest spiritual healing groups: the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends. Bruno Groening (1906-1959) was a household name in Germany in the nineteen-fifties on account of the enormous amount of healings he instigated through his teachings. He did not lay on hands but healed through the spoken word.

Still today, through the promulgation of his teachings, the most incredible healings occur throughout the world. The Circle of Friends is established on all five continents and through its communities (local groups or branches) those seeking to recover their health are given the opportunity of instigating their own recovery from within, and regaining their health through the conscious assimilation of the healing energy. There are no examinations or treatments, no laying on of hands, no therapies. In this way the Circle fulfils the criteria of serious spiritual healing. Those who have received healing often work in the communities in a wide variety of functions on a voluntary basis to express their appreciation for the help they have received. There are no costs for those seeking help; expenses are met by voluntary donations. No promises of healing are given and nobody undergoing medical therapy is advised to stop it. The absorption of the healing power is not inconsistent with medical therapies.

During his lifetime Bruno Groening (1906 - 1959) attached great importance to the documentation of healings.

During his lifetime Bruno Groening (1906 - 1959) attached great importance to the documentation of healings. In view of the impressive healings, a Medical Scientific Group was formed within the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends in 1992. The German name of this group is Medizinisch-Wissenschaftliche Fachgruppe and the initials MWF are standard for all languages. Today (1999) more than 4700 doctors and representatives of other therapeutic professions in 25 countries are affiliated to this group. Through regular international lectures to colleagues and interested laymen in what are now 52 countries, doctors and alternative medical practitioners aim to explain the possibilities and limitations of spiritual healing. With the aid of numerous medically documented healing reports presented in these lectures, it is shown that spiritual healing is much more than an auto-or extraneous suggestion. What is under discussion is the concrete work of a Higher Power, which can be substantiated and which everybody can readily absorb and use to restore his health. The lectures are based on the teachings of Bruno Groening which, in an amazingly simple way, show how to make use of this spiritual healing energy.

The MWF physicians have trained non-professionals to record recoveries reported within the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends in exact accordance with standard professional methods of preparing clinical anamneses. The contents of these reports are checked by doctors and, should they warrant it, medically documented.

This book presents a systematic review of some of the recoveries that have occurred within the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends in the last few years. Due to the time factor, only a portion of the reports which have been assembled have been included. In addition to a comprehensively researched version of the case, the accuracy of which is confirmed by the signature of the person concerned as well as a witness, an abridged version is also prepared and it is the latter which forms the basis of this book. The reports are grouped analogously with standard medical works of reference - classified according to the types of illness. Due to the volume of work which the MWF members have to get through - like all the helpers in the Groening communities they work voluntarily in their spare time and holidays - only the most important recoveries could be conclusively medically documented to date. In the meantime, however, the work on most of the remaining cases has begun.

These abridged case histories are personal testimonies from people who have experienced spiritual healing in the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends. They should give those who are suffering illness and pain, faith and hope for their own recovery, and show them how to obtain healing. They should silence those who - healthy and without pain - make fun of spiritual healing and show them that there is something Higher, a help that does not come from man and can heal every wound.
