Bruno Groening and the doctors - back then and today |
"Healing will take place the world over"Ceremony on Bruno Groening's 100th birthdayIt was indeed something unusual. Over 2,000 people had come to Geseke in Westphalia on the weekend of Pentecost to celebrate the 100th birthday of a man who has been dead for over 47 years: Bruno Groening, who was known in his day as a "miracle doctor"--but what is his status today? Bruno Groening friends came from 40 countries, and simultaneous interpretation was provided in 15 languages. Friends from more than 30 countries who tuned in to the Internet were also given interpretation in 13 languages. The event was shown on giant screens in many areas: in Croatia around 450 friends watched the happenings; in Russia over 400; in Munich and Stuttgart more than 100 each; and in Regensburg and Vienna around 50 each. In Brazil, Mexico, the USA and Canada friends stayed up long into the night because of the time difference to watch the event taking place in the northern German countryside between one and six o'clock in the morning. Why is so much attention still being given the world over to this man born in Gdansk a hundred years ago who became a sensation in Herford in 1949? What is so special about Bruno Groening? For him only one thing was important: to helpMax Bruhn, a neighbor and friend from Gdansk, once described his experiences with Bruno Groening in the 1930s, coming to this conclusion: "Even back then Bruno Groening never thought of himself; instead, his top priority was to help his fellow man and give him new strength. It was irrelevant to him whether a person asked for healing or needed other help, or whether he was innocent or had come into conflict with the existing laws. Time and again he gave up his sleep or personal gain. For him helping was the only thing. Back then, too, he would be called to the sick, who would plead for help, even in the night. But he never took even a penny for it, regardless of what it was. On the contrary, he would even give these people the little money that he had. Even when someone thanked him for some deed, Bruno Groening would refuse to accept the gratitude, saying, among other things, that the person should show his gratitude by also doing good for his fellow man. In many cases, I was able to accompany him and become convinced of his deeds." The mass gatherings of 1949When, in the spring of 1949, Bruno Groening became known as the "miracle doctor of Herford", mass gatherings of almost unimaginable magnitude began to occur. It was as if the sick had only been waiting for the right person to finally come to help them, lessen their misery and take away their pain They had come from everywhere - from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, England and even from the USA. A reporter from the "Wochenschau" later called the mass gatherings at the "Traberhof" in Rosenheim a true "army of the wretched". In the years shortly after the war the "economic miracle" and its prosperity had not yet set in. Signs of great destruction were still visible everywhere. Many people were still fighting for their bare survival. Few had been able to overcome the trauma of war. The people were relentlessly oppressed by emotional pain, fear, desperation and hatred. But at the same time their maltreated and disabled bodies and limbs, ailing and burning with pain, called out for salvation, a little love and humanity and, above all, help and rescue. In this environment the news of 'Groening - the miracle doctor', as the press called him, spread like wildfire. All the people who had seemed defeated and beyond help, now pricked up their ears, started to move, took new hope and thronged to him, begging for help. The MiracleWhat happened then was deeply moving. The army of the wretched was transformed - the sick became well, the suffering happy. Fear and hatred disappeared. Before the eyes of the astonished crowd a force took effect, an invisible power - an omnipotence - that no one was familiar with, that no one had ever experienced before. The lame could suddenly walk again, the blind see and the abandoned given a new life. The inconceivable, the impossible, the indescribable was happening. What had been unimaginable before and that everyone had considered impossible was suddenly becoming a reality. The Miracle continuesSince then many years have gone by. The happenings of 1949 are now a part of history, yet the healing and help goes on. It hasn't come to an end, nor is it completed. It wasn't bound to the time or to the body of Bruno Groening. It isn't a nice story from long ago to nostalgically and wistfully look back on. No, the same is happening today as back then, and that's why the 2,000 birthday guests came to Geseke. Gratitude and a requestIt was moving to see the friends from the world over give their words of thanks to Bruno Groening one after the other in a two-hour "trip around the world". Many of them had regained their health, joy in life, and inner peace thanks to the little man from Gdansk. Some of them had to suppress their tears or simply let them flow. Whether they had traveled thousands of miles from India, Iran, Australia, Cameroon, the USA or Peru, or had come from the nearby Sauerland, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich or Stuttgart, they all had two things in common - gratitude and a request. They were grateful for help and healing they had received, and wanted to request further help for themselves, for loved ones at home - for friends, relatives, acquaintances - or for all mankind, the animals and plants and the wonderful earth. "We are all equal"Typical of the many statements of gratitude is the speech of Richard Leo, Country Leader for the USA, who said the following to the friends via the Internet: "We have come together from the world over to show that the teachings of Bruno Groening are now available to everyone and that there are no barriers between peoples. The people in the Circle of Friends cannot be separated by different languages, cultures, religions or national borders. We are all equal in the eyes of God. And we are here to celebrate the anniversary of the birth and the teachings of a man who came to teach us how we can live in peace, how we can love and respect every human being and how we can live in connection with God. Thank you, Bruno, for your life and for your message to all the people of this earth. Thank you." (the)
Healing venous insufficiency (varicose veins)Success Report of Jean Vanthournout, 79, Community of Lille, FranceIt began when I was 12 with pain in my legs. It would start especially when I had to stand for a long time. Over the years it got worse. Finally my legs swelled up when I had to stand for long and later even when sitting. At the age of 45, after a few hours of office work my ankles were swollen. My legs hurt and I would have to stand up and walk to get relief. The medical diagnosis was venous insufficiency (varicose veins). I was given support hose. They always brought me relief. I put them on right away every morning. The doctor advised me to keep my legs raised as often as possible and to avoid standing for long periods. He also prescribed medication for me to improve the blood circulation in my legs. No help for the painIn 1993 I was operated on. A vein was stripped from my right leg. However, neither this operation, nor the support stockings or medication were able to hinder the progress of the disease. As the years went by it got so bad that, for example, when I had to stand in the train I could only endure it for up to15 minutes. Then the pain and pressure in my legs would become so severe that I would have to sit down. But even when sitting I wouldn't be able to endure it after a while. For example, after I had driven my car for a few hours I got cramps in my legs. My calves became so stiff that I would have to stop. The ailment was especially bad in the summer heat. In the end the pain was always there, increasing when I stood or sat for a long time and decreasing when I raised my legs. Even walking had become difficult - after 40 meters I wouldn't be able to continue because of the pain. Cycling and sports were unthinkable. I had to pause many times when climbing stairs.
When I was 57 I was sent into early retirement because of the illness. I had resigned myself to the pain in my legs. Healing occursIn February, 2003 I read in a magazine about Bruno Groening and his teachings. The words "spiritual healing" and "there is no such thing as 'incurable'" made me curious. I attended a Physicians' Information Lecture in April. From then on I tuned in to receive the Heilstrom*. At first, nothing changed. Starting in October I took part regularly in the community hours of the Circle of Friends. In July, 2004 what I had been yearning for happened. All the pain disappeared. For the first time in my life I was able to take part in a hiking week in Austria. There I walked for many miles without any trouble. I was even able to stop and stand to enjoy a beautiful view - and without any pain! It was the middle of summer and very hot, yet none of the earlier complaints appeared! I was able to stop using support hose and medication. Can anyone understand what it means at my age to be free after a life of pain? The Growing Work - Poland (Part 6, 2)The homeland of Bruno Groening - a bridge between East and WestParts of Poland have been occupied many times during its eventful history by neighboring Germany, Austria and Russia. Situated in the center of Europe and one of its largest countries in area, Poland as such disappeared entirely from the map from the time of its third partition in 1795 until the end of the First World War. Between the two world wars the Polish people were free for around 20 years until the most recent occupation, after which it was not until 1988 that they were able to obtain freedom once again. Their faith was often the only hope for this devout, good-hearted people in their difficult battle for their identity and freedom. The expansion beginsIn April 1991 Krystyna Wozniak, a Polish woman living in Germany, came to the Bremerhaven Community in seek of help. She was able to immediately accept the teachings of Bruno Groening into her heart and recognize their importance. She had the desire to transmit knowledge of the Heilstrom* to her people and immediately offered her services as a translator. During a conference in 1992 she offered to drive Grete Häusler, Leader of the Circle of Friends, to Poland in order to transmit the teachings of Bruno Groening to the people of her homeland.
Krystyna Wozniak in1993 at one of her first information lectures on the teachings of Bruno Groening in Stettin Esperanto contacts lay the foundationIt happened that the World Esperanto Conference was to take place in Vienna in June that year. There are many Esperantists in Poland, since the founder of this world-uniting artificial language was born in Bialystok, Poland. During the conference Grete Häusler held an information lecture on the teachings of Bruno Groening. Many Polish Esperantists participated in this world congress and several of them also attended the lecture by the leader of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends. At the end of the event some members of the audience made their interest known and handed in their addresses. These were passed on to Krystyna Wozniak with the request that she make contact with the new friends. This led her to visit Poland with a friend for several weeks the end of July, 1992 in order to pass on the teachings of Bruno Groening. The doors are openThe Esperantists held the first six lectures in Katowice, Krakow, Rzeszow, Lodz, Warsaw, and Bydgoszcz. A seventh lecture was scheduled at the request of others. Then in the autumn of that same year came the second journey. The first seven communities that had been founded in the summer of 1992 after the first trip were already independent within a year. Then shortly thereafter the communities of Gdansk, Bialystok, Olsztyn, Wroclaw, Opole und Poznan were added. In October, 1993 Grete Häusler led the first conference for the Polish friends in Warsaw, which was attended by 100 persons, a large number at the time. The new Polish friends were even able to report on a number of healings. After this conference Grete Häusler visited Gdansk (Danzig), the birthplace of Bruno Groening for the first time. Along with a few friends she visited his family home, where he was born in 1906. Together they went into the nearby woods to which Bruno Groening had often fled as a small child. He said that he had experienced God in nature there, and it was in those woods that his life mission was revealed to him. Just a ten-minute walk away is the church that the Groening family regularly visited back then and where Bruno Groening was also baptized. Years of consolidationFor 11 years Krystyna Wozniak and other friends traveled around Poland 2 - 3 thousand miles a year by car, holding lectures on spiritual healing through the teachings of Bruno Groening. She was also responsible for many publications that attracted more and more interested people and seekers of help to the Circle of Friends. As a result, communities were established over the years in many cities. Three years ago Krystyna Wozniak turned over the supervision of the Polish communities to two friends there, Barbara Debowska-Siejka und Adam Sawicki. She still helps coordinate their activities from Germany. The organizational structures in Poland are the same as in Germany, the USA or India. Regional conferences are regularly held in four regions, each with a dozen communities, while there are yearly conferences for community leaders and all their helpers. [Gdansk] Danzig-Oliva - Bruno Groening's birthplaceIn 1995 the Poland Conference was shifted from Warsaw to Gdansk. By then the conference had taken on an international character. It is held every year in August for all friends from Poland and its neighboring countries. It has already become customary for all friends to meet before the conference at the place where Bruno Groening's family home once stood and then go for a walk in the nearby woods. Whenever her schedule allows it, Grete Häusler always attends this conference. In moving words she tells the friends of Bruno Groening's childhood and his experiences in the woods. As an eyewitness who accompanied Bruno Groening for many years, she had many opportunities to personally hear him tell of his childhood experiences. Decisions of great significanceWhile still a small child there in the Oliva woods, Bruno Groening made decisions that had an influence on the origin of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends and still affect its development as it paves the way to lasting health and a life in peace and freedom for people the world over. This year the 100th anniversary of his birth was celebrated. (For further information, see section 1 above). Since his experiences in those woods influenced his whole later life, the place has a very special significance for all friends. If you look at the recent history Gdansk you cannot help but conclude that the city has provided important inspiration for the establishment of peace on earth. It was from Gdansk that the spark of freedom for the people of Eastern Europe emerged in 1980, resulting in the fall of the "Iron Curtain" and opening up the path to God for these people. Establishment of the Medical Scientific Group (MWF)The establishment of the Medical Scientific Group began in Poland in the nineties, and since then doctors from Germany, Austria and Russia have held several information lectures every year that have led to the founding of new communities and the strengthening of those already existing. In October, 1998 a Polish doctor organized a big MWF Conference in Warsaw that was attended by 200 guests, including over 100 doctors. Several of these doctors began to visit the communities regularly and to verify the success reports of healings in the communities after the laymen had recorded them. But it was not until two years ago that the big upswing occurred that caused a dynamic expansion. A Polish dentist who had been living in Germany for many years took over the coordination of the Polish MWF. With her excellent knowledge of the language she was able to intensify the personal contacts with doctors in Poland and supervise from Germany their success report work. Since she had direct access to the headquarters of the German MWF of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends in Hamburg, she had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of MWF organization and transmit them to the Polish Circle of Friends. As a result of her motivational efforts, they have taken the success report work to heart and have determined to make it their vested interest. Today there is a Physicians' Community in Poznan, biannual MWF conferences are held and there are success report work circles led by doctors in several cities. Polish doctors have been independently holding information lectures since the year 2004, and in March of this year the doctors of the Polish MWF held seven lectures in various parts of the country. They were attended by around 300 people, many of whom joined the Circle of Friends. The lectures were also attended by a number of doctors who perceived the value of the teachings of Bruno Groening and showed their interest. Thanks to these lectures two new communities arose in Glucholazy und Nysa. YouthYoung people also visit communities all over Poland. Even though spread far apart, they still maintain contact with one another, and last year they organized two youth weekends in Olsztyn near Krakow. Several Polish youths have also taken part in the youth week near Berlin many times. Some of them have become helpers and have even taken on responsible tasks for the country-wide organization. In the year 2005, the first youth community was founded in Warsaw. The Baltic countries: Estonia, Latvia, LithuaniaFrom Poland the expansion of the work goes out into the Baltic countries. Ten years ago, Alicja Zukowska, a Polish friend working in the Lithuanian capital city of Vilnius, arranged for the first lecture to be held there by Krystyna Wozniak, who drove to Vilnius to give the lecture. The first Polish-speaking community was then founded. Polish friends continued to help with the expansion of communities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and MWF-doctors from various countries held lectures. Now there are three communities in Vilnius, whose meetings are held in Polish and Russian as well as in Lithuanian. Four years ago a community was also founded in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, where the community hours are held in Estonian. A few individual friends in Latvia are coordinated from Poland. The documentary film, "The Phenomenon Bruno Groening – on the tracks of the 'miracle healer'"After months of work, the DVD with the documentary film on Bruno Groening dubbed into Polish was completed early this year. It was shown for the first time on March 12 in Warsaw, Poland's capital, in the conference hall of the Polish Actors' Association. All the friends had eagerly awaited this event. Arrangements for the hall were made by a Polish actress who had worked on the dubbing of the Polish version and thus become acquainted with Bruno Groening. When hired as a speaker for the dubbing she had never heard of him before and wanted to first check to see what this man and his teachings were all about. So she visited an introduction to the teachings of Bruno Groening and experienced a spontaneous healing. She had been suffering for several months from severe sciatica, was in great pain and had to limp. She went home pain-free and has remained well to this day. After her healing, she joined the Circle of Friends out of gratitude and, along with many other friends, helped with the organization of the film-showings. As a result of the intensive press and public relations work, four thorough articles have already appeared in esoteric magazines. The first four showings in Warsaw in March were sold out. Many viewers were moved to tears and after the film had ended continued to sit for a long time in quiet contemplation. During the first showing of the film a friend by the name Andrzej Kaczynski, who was helping with the technical aspects, experienced help. He had suffered since 1985 from back pain. During the showing he sensed the Heilstrom* and the next day when he got up he felt very good and has been pain-free ever since. Andrzej Kaczynski had been attending Circle of Friends meetings since October, 2005. Additional showings of the documentary are scheduled for other parts of the country. (krw) MWF: Bruno Groening and the doctors - back then and today
G. Blättner, M.D.: after an initial enthusiasm, I have experienced during my many years as an ENT specialist and chief physician at a hospital, an increasing helplessness and powerlessness in the face of the ever-growing number of chronically ill people. This very worrisome situation made me open to alternative approaches. In the year 1994 I heard for the first time of the possibility of spiritual healing through the teachings of Bruno Groening: some of my own patients had found healing at the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends. My years of therapy on their behalf hadn't been able to achieve the success that occurred through attendance of the community hours and absorption of the Heilstrom*. Although I had never heard of this healing energy, I saw its effect on my patients. The healings are realEven though I approached the matter with great skepticism, I couldn't simply reject something because I wasn't familiar with it. My years and varied experience in holistic healing had often showed me how little I really know". Then, when Dr. Blättner experienced the impressive healing of his own wife from chronic arthritis of and he himself was freed from pain of long years' duration, he knew that healing through the teachings of Bruno Groening was a reality and began to collaborate with the Medical Scientific Group. Dr. Blättner: "after over 40 years of medical activity, I regard the encounter with and verification of spiritual healing through the teachings of Bruno Groening to be the high point of my medical career. The knowledge that Bruno Groening transmitted through lectures in his lifetime represents for me today a clear description of the fundamental laws of a higher healing force to which modern medicine has lost its connection." Just like Dr. Blättner, more and more physicians and specialists are coming to the Bruno Groening Circle of friends. However, even during Bruno Groening's lifetime his work had attracted the lively interest of some doctors. Others, on the other hand, had regarded it as their duty to bitterly oppose him and forbid his activity. Doctors request help for their patientsHead physician Georg Hacker, M.D., of the Kirchseeon Sanatorium near Munich, wrote to Bruno Groening on September 10, 1949:
MWF Main Conference near Cologne in the spring of 2005 "... after consulting with the management of the State Insurance Organization of Upper Bavaria, I permit myself to respectfully ask whether you would perhaps be inclined to visit our local sanatorium. We have around 130 male patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Most of them are severe, open cases. Among them are some with tuberculosis of the larynx and intestines, as well as two cases of osseous tuberculosis. . . Of course you would be able to work here without any difficulties being put in your way by me or the physicians under my supervision, and we would not take it upon ourselves to exercise any right to supervision or the like over you. My invitation has its basis absolutely and faithfully in the sole interest of my patients..." The desire for help for one's own patientsA doctor in Munich, too, requested help for his patients: "... I have followed your success with open admiration. As a general practitioner, I have patients you could certainly help and who without your help scarcely have a chance of recovery and will continue to be bedridden. Therefore I would like to inquire whether I might bring these patients to you or whether you, if a car were provided and all preparations were made for you, would come to us. Further, I give you my word that I would obtain no material gain of any kind thereby, but am only motivated by the desire to help my patients. . ." (A. Molenaar, M.D., Gräfelfing, in a letter of September 5, 1949) And here is the other sideWhen the Herford Medical Commission met in the spring of 1949 to consider the matter of Bruno Groening's activity, the message of Senior Medical Officer Dr. Rainer was unmistakable: "Gentlemen, nothing that is being shown to you here is anything new. We, too, can treat cases of this kind with similar success." Dr. Dyes, the Detmold Public Health Officer, expressed himself in a similar manner. He literally declared to Groening that whatever he might do or prove, the prohibition would not be lifted. The doctors present made it clear that they regarded collaboration with Bruno Groening to be an affront against the honor of the medical profession. A medical association president even went so far as to produce inflammatory leaflets against Bruno Groening and distribute them to the public. Bruno Groening once commented on the opposition: "as far as I know it exists only because 1. people no longer know anything about the divine forces, nor can they believe in them; and 2. they also no longer want them because they are smitten by their own methods and experiments and can't stand it when someone not schooled by them has better results." No collaboration came aboutEven though the prohibition against healing that haunted Bruno Groening from May 3, 1949 until his death had been based on the Healing Practitioners' Law, his petition for an examination according to the Healing Practitioner's Law was not granted. Although astonishing healings were observed in medical tests of his ability at the Heidelberg University Hospital in July and August of 1949, Bruno Groening's wish to collaborate with the doctors was not fulfilled. Bruno Groening: "…and I have been continually hindered here in that I see nothing before my eyes but "prohibition," "prohibition" and again "prohibition"! A person can live and live well. But here it isn't a matter of my own life, but of the sick people, of helping the sick people. And, whatever happens, I won't give that up. I can't just pass by when I see people lying there who can't get help". A doctor sides with Bruno GroeningDuring the period August-September, 1949 as many as 30,000 people at a time came to the Traberhof near Rosenheim. Most of them were seekers of healing who had been given up by science and saw their last hope in Bruno Groening. During his lifetime, Bruno Groening received more than a million letters. Dr. Zetti, a Munich physician, learned of Bruno Groening during the Rosenheim period. One of the doctors who publicly supported him, he helped write the short healing reports that were recorded after Bruno Groening's lectures. Here is a small selection of such reports from the Bruno Groening Archive:
Dr. Zetti writes in his expert's opinion: "The Groening phenomenon interested me so much that I have for weeks spent many days - but also many nights - at Groening's side (...) We doctors are baffled by Groening. First of all, he is able through personal contact and very strong concentration to cure or at least provide relief to sick people with the most severe illnesses, even the blind - I witnessed it myself. Secondly, Groening is able to achieve the same success - that is, complete healing or considerable improvement - through what he calls "remote healing". I have also witnessed remote healings." Collaboration with the doctors was important to himBruno Groening considered his activity as something natural: "My healings are related to an energy within nature's divine order (...) Therefore one shouldn't call them 'miracles' even though they cannot - or can only with difficulty - be explained according to current scientific knowledge (...) I have never been and never will be an enemy of the doctors.
Even when Bruno Groening placed himself at the disposal of the doctors in Heidelberg in the summer of 1949, the desired collaboration never came about. It is my serious intention to collaborate with the doctors, who regard their responsible position as a calling and indefatigably seek possibilities that promise healing for their patients. It has resulted in excellent success wherever it came about with pureness of heart (...) Even the skeptics, and especially the medically trained, will in the process come to recognize the extent to which belief in God and living in accord with his commandments are the foundation of emotional health and therefore also the first prerequisite for physical health." For generations knowledge of the existence of a higher power was withheld from the doctors in their medical training. It was only in lectures on the history of medicine that the students learned something of a "vis vitalis" (life force). As a result, most doctors lack a basic knowledge of the laws of the life force that Bruno Groening called the "divine energy" or "Heilstrom".* Today, however, more and more doctors are experiencing all too painfully the limits of their profession in their daily practice and are examining in an unprejudiced manner new ways of healing. Doctors convince themselvesDr. Gringinger: "I was looking for a simple way of healing when I came in contact with the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends in June, 1996 and experienced an inexplicable spontaneous healing from chronic pollen allergy of 18 years' duration. What convinced me the most were the results of the documented healings that we collected. I obtain a great deal of strength and help from regularly tuning in to this force and requesting help in all aspects of my life - even in my profession. The connection to and exchange with doctors from the world over who, like me, have also recognized the great value of the teachings of Bruno Groening and the Circle of Friends are a great enrichment for me. Dr. Dölzlmüller had a negative attitude toward the teachings of Bruno Groening until he became acquainted with the healings: " ...and then there were the success reports, or rather the work with people who had been healed in the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends, often after decades of suffering. The spiritual "tuning-in" and absorption of the healing power caused it - and at no cost. An enthusiasm for these teachings gradually crept over me. The more I came to realize how much good is accomplished here, the more I, too, wanted to help. Today, it is a special joy and challenge for me to lead a physicians' community." Bruno Groening wasn't able to witness the fulfillment of his desire to collaborate with doctors in the verification of the healings during his lifetime. Yet today, many years after his death, doctors on all continents are finding their way to the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends. The healings are verified in medically-supervised work circles and in special physicians' communities. |
