Complete book:Bruno Groening:

PrefaceI composed this little book on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Bruno Groening’s public appearance in Herford in 1949. At the time - in 1974 - I called it: Bruno Groening, 25 Years of World-wide Work. Today - in 1984 - I want to publish it in a revised form. Everything Bruno Groening foresaw becomes reality more and more today. In the daily newspaper ‘Rhein-Sieg-Anzeiger’ on Feb. 15, 1984, is the following (excerpt): Future Behind Concrete? Cold Star People supporting atomic bomb shelters have also obviously missed something American and Soviet scientists recently found out: If the super powers detonate only one tenth of all existing nuclear weapons over large cities, then the earth would turn into a cold star due to climate changes. Then mankind would freeze to death if it hadn‘t already starved to death - scientists from East and West stated unanimously. This, and similar prophecies, are spread every day, reaching everyone. People are also awaiting the publication of the Third Message of Fatima, which most likely will also have something to say about what we can expect in the future. People are in a state of world-fear, and depression and sickness in young and old increase visibly. A hopelessness pervades their very efforts to make a life. They can‘t find the meaning of life. Sick, weakened, and hopeless: that’s life for most people - beautifully dressed in material prosperity. Soul and body cry for help and healing. Who can help and heal here, where is there a way out? There is only one answer: Look upon the man who gave the answer to the very same question to thousands of people in Herford and at the Traberhof near Rosenheim in 1949, by enabling healings to occur in inexplicable ways. Through this action people experienced a transformation inside themselves, and they recognized the meaning of life. Bruno Groening was able to see the past, present, and future; therefore he could help every person in such a way that each person was really helped. The help- and healing-seeking people became happy and healthy people again with a positive attitude towards life. Afterwards, they knew whom [what] they had to serve [in the future]: not the evil any longer, but the good. And this way they experienced that good is stronger than evil. Bruno Groening reconnected them with the almighty power of life, the Heilstrom*, which doesn‘t know ‘incurable’ or ‘impossible’, which is continuously sent from the divine power source, and which only needs to be received by us human beings. These people then knew and no longer feared to be overcome by the evil one, by whatever means. Today the words of Bruno Groening grow in their relevance: ‘I live so that mankind will be able to continue living.’ It is now 25 years since Bruno Groening has no longer lived among us physically. And still we experience that help and healing continue to occur in every respect if we rely on his words and then the Heilstrom* begins to flow in our body. Therefore, we as Friends [of Bruno Groening] know that for every impasse help may come, and this little book may therefore be a small beginning for the help-seeking person. Childhood and YouthThe city of Danzig (Gdansk) was Bruno Groening’s home town. Danzig was a city with a 700-year proud and rich German history. Before it was destroyed and fell into Polish hands [in World War II], this was the ground on which Bruno Groening gathered his emotional impressions during his childhood, youth, and early adulthood. Already the Goths, who settled here at the coast of the Baltic Sea and in the Weichsel river area for many centuries, called Danzig the area of the ‘Danziger Bucht’ (Bay of Gdansk). Later the castle of the Pomeranian princes of the Danzig area was located near the spot where the Mottlau river separates itself from the Weichsel river. Several centuries later Germans immigrated, and they became the first German long-distance traders. The first German market settlement is traceable to 1224. Danzig became a prestigious Hanse town and flourished. It was taken over by the German knights’ order, and it experienced many years of peace, later troubled times. Danzig became autonomous, later the capital of West Prussia, and finally the ‘Free City’ after the first World War. These were probably the hardest political and economical times the city had to endure. Danzig experienced this fate because its geographical location - at a bay of the Baltic Sea and at the mouth of the river Weichsel - is extremely favourable for a leading role in the Baltic Sea area. The position between two large peoples, the Germans and the Slavs, caused the tragedy of its destiny. The beauty of the sea landscape and of the lower river area impressed itself on the people and enabled them to build a beautiful, rich, and powerful city. Diligence, belief, and strength were the elements of the people from Danzig. They built their defiant, beautiful buildings such as the St. Mary’s Cathedral, the high hall in the Artus Court, the City Hall, the Armoury, the shipyard, and the famous Kran City Gate (Krantor) at the Mottlau river. The poem from Martin Damss gives one a glimpse into the "Being of Dansk:"
In all parts of Germany Danzig was often considered to be an oasis of peace, and it therefore became a refuge for artists and scholars. Danzig’s contribution to literature and theatre is a historically unique accomplishment. On its town coat of arms Danzig has two white crosses and a golden crown on blood-red ground. We know about Danzig-Oliva that a Cistercian Convent was founded there around 1170 AD. And here, in Danzig-Oliva, a suburb of Danzig, close to the sea and the great forests, here the Groening family lived. We‘ll let Bruno Groening himself report about his childhood and youth! For this we refer to a very valuable treatise which has been preserved in the archive. "Biography: I, Bruno Groening, residing in Plochingen (at the Neckar River), at Stumpenhof, Im Dornendreher 117, was born on May 31, 1906, in Danzig-Oliva. I was the fourth child of seven; my parents were August and Margarethe Groening. My father was a foreman bricklayer. Both my parents are deceased; my mother died in 1939 and my father in 1949. During my childhood and youth, both of which I spent in my parents’ home, I became more and more aware of extraordinary abilities emanating from me. They had a calming and healing influence on people and animals. Even when I was a small child, sick people were freed from their complaints while in my presence. Children as well as adults who were in distress, or having arguments, calmed down completely by a few words I spoke. As a child I also found out that animals which were usually regarded as shy, or even vicious, behaved in a good-natured and gentle way towards me. My relationship to my parental home was therefore strange and tense. Soon I strove to become completely independent in order to escape the ambience of "being misunderstood" in my family. I went to the Volksschule (elementary school). After finishing I went through a commercial apprenticeship for 2 1/2 years. However, I had to quit this apprenticeship on behalf of my father, for it was his wish that I should learn a building-trade. I followed my father’s wish, and I learned the carpenter’s trade. I was unable to finish my apprenticeship with a final exam, because unemployment was prevalent at the time in Danzig. For this reason I had to quit my apprenticeship 1/4 year before finishing, because the company, where I served my apprenticeship, had to close due to lack of orders." Family, Work, Prisoner of War and ReturnBruno Groening writes in his biography: ‘In the year 1925 I succeeded in building up a construction and furniture shop and so managed to become self-employed. After about two years I quit this work. Instead, I made a living as a factory worker and casual labourer until 1943. This way I worked in a chocolate factory, at the post office in Danzig, also as a telegram deliverer for about nine months, and with Siemens and Halske as an electrician. Here I did most of the work independently. All these jobs I did with interest. My goal was to do an internship in order to study the knowledge and abilities of people in all situations of life and all social levels, and I learned how people arrange their lives. I not only looked for the poorest of the poor, but also for the richest of the rich in order to get to know how they live. I wasn‘t interested in a private life as it is commonly understood (going to movie theatres, to bars and pubs, playing cards, and so on). At the age of 21, Gertrud Cohn, from Danzig, and I got married. Two children were born during this marriage; they have died in the meantime. Very early in my life I already exhibited a special talent which affected people and animals in a calming and healing way, as this has often been the case with some people since primeval times. People with these natural abilities hadn’t only brought about essential improvements but total cures for physical and psychological disturbances which hadn‘t been effected through any other healing methods. In 1943, at the age of 37, I was drafted into the German armed forces. Because of my view of life there were disagreements. For example, I was threatened with a court-martial for my statement: "Whether or not you send me to the front, I won’t shoot anybody." Yet eventually I went to the front. In 1944 I was wounded in my thigh by shell splinters. Therefore, I came to my home-based military hospital. Yet, without being cured, I had to fight again on German grounds against the Russians. In March, 1945, I became a Russian prisoner of war. In December, 1945, I was released from the Russian prison camps to go to West Germany. In the Russian prison camps I stood up for the imprisoned comrades in every respect. Therefore I was brought to the Russian commander’s office for reprimand three times; in one case I was threatened with being shot. I also demanded that our German prisoners be treated at least as well as cattle, for at that time the prisoners were treated much worse than cattle. Even there I was able to bring help and relief more than once to the comrades in their seemingly hopeless conditions. After my release as a prisoner of war in 1945, I took an apartment in Dillenburg, and I sent for my wife, who as a refugee had been able to stay in Schleswig. In order to make a living I accepted every job that was offered to me in those post-war times. Together with refugees from Sudetengau (Sudeten region) I founded the "Hilfswerk der Vertriebenen" (Relief Organization of the Exiled) in West Germany. I also belonged to the housing commission, because again I felt obliged to help the people.’ 1949 - HerfordAbout this period of time Bruno Groening writes in his biography: ‘In March, 1949, I was introduced to the Hülsmann family in Herford by a woman I knew. I was asked to help their son. I did so. With this Mr Hülsmann made great propaganda which brought a crowd of people to their house and the area. Many healings, even spontaneous ones, occurred. Immediately, I went to the Public Health Administration in order to set up a co-operative work arrangement with the doctors. I wanted to avoid all difficulties from the very beginning. However, the authorities refused. On the contrary, I was handed a written injunction against healing. Help-seeking people who were assembled around the house of the Hülsmann family organized a protest march during my absence and made an assault on the town hall. The mayor had no choice but to call me and allow at least another five days for further healings. I also went to Hamburg, Schleswig etc. to see medical doctors, who invited me to help sick people on the occasion of my visits. In Hamburg things escalated: The Lord Mayor prohibited me to speak because the citizens of Hamburg had prepared everything necessary to give me the chance of speaking to thousands of people seeking help.’ Dr. A. Kaul, PhD, was one of the reporters in Herford in 1949 who followed the events in a warm-hearted manner. Th following is an excerpt from his booklet ‘Das Wunder von Herford’ (The Miracle of Herford - not translated into English yet). ‘The whole sorrow of mankind touches me!" Thousands of sick and invalid people come to the small Westphalian town which contains the "wonder doctor" within its walls. In buses, vans, cars, by rail and on foot, on horse-drawn vehicles and on bicycles, on carts, in wheelchairs and in ambulances - day and night, crowds of people are coming to Herford, Wilhelmsplatz 7, where Bruno Groening found lodging with the parents of a child healed by him. The human misery revealed here is shocking and unlimited. Sick people are sitting in the surrounding gardens and parks, deckchairs and stretchers are standing here day and night, people are waiting for healing. In the night of June 17th, 1949, the police wanted to put up about 50 mothers with very small children into huts overnight; but they failed, the women didn‘t leave; even when it started raining, the people stayed. They were flocking together from all over Germany, people burdened and without hope, young and old, men, women, children, people of all classes and social ranks, from America, Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, Poland; even gypsies came in crowds after a mute gypsy child had been healed. The crippled were there, the blind, the mute, a community of misery and sorrow. They were poor people, no matter whether they were seated in luxurious cars or moving around painfully on their crutches. There were those with and without hope, tired and desperate ones, a hundred- and a thousand-fold all with one desire: getting healed! No one asked if the events happening here were approved by an agency, an administration, or a ministry, if science gave its consent or not, if he whom they asked to heal them is a messiah or a scribe; all they wanted was to be released from their human pains, they wanted to become happy and active people again, they wanted to become healthy again. Between this human misery and the quarrel about Bruno Groening is an abyss of human inadequacy. Those who are sceptical and full of doubt, those who are longing for sensation, competitors, the chatterers, envious, conceited, and arrogant people, they all think they have to comment on it, to represent right and law, to protect public order and safety. Facing the misery and the deeply moving sights, they all should be quiet and watch and turn away silently. When a man, sitting paralysed in a chair for 20 years, a living corpse, suddenly stands up and begins to walk shakily, something grand has happened, something that stands above everyday life. For him and for us a miracle has happened; a miracle one can‘t grasp even if one uses one’s analytic intellect and refers to the fact that there hasn‘t yet been any scientific proof that Bruno Groening healed real illnesses - as opposed to imaginary ones. If the 70-year-old Mrs. Klimphove from Ennigerloh in Westphalia, Ostenfelder Strasse 123, who was paralysed for seven years, was "actually" or "imaginarily" sick, may be decided by the doctors who had treated her in vain so far. The fact I confirm here is: For the first time after seven years this old woman was able to move her arms and stand up from her chair without help. This happened on June 16th, 1949, around 2 p. m., and to me it is one of those "miracles" which are beyond the small knowledge of the human intellect, something we can‘t analyse by measurement or calculation.’ The people who received help thanked their helper sincerely. The success reports and letters of thanks of this time are deeply-moving testimonies to human misery followed by happiness and gratitude. With great empathy, Dr. Kaul brought back to us the hours in Herford in 1949, before our eyes he revived the belief of the help-seeking people from the time in Herford. Thus the success reports of this period are even greater testimonies to the belief of the people. The following report was given to Bruno Groening by a man whose wife was freed from evil.
Success ReportDear Mr. Groening, I consider it as my duty and obligation to thank you, dear Mr. Groening, honestly and from the bottom of my heart, for the healing of my wife, Hilda Steffan, Bad Salzuflen, Untere Mühlenstr. 16. May God reward you. According to existing medical certificates since 1942: "neuralgic complaints with osteoarthritis, spondylosis deformans, general circulatory problems, muscle rheumatism, shortness of breath due to heart disease." For years my wife, as well as my daughter Luitgard (born May 1, 1930 in Bohemian Kamnitz, Sudetenland) had been treated by Prof. Dr. Max Hochrein, director of the University Polyclinic in Leipzig. My wife had received relief, but hadn‘t been cured. I had been worried about my future because for years I had been persecuted by the nazis, and at a convenient opportunity I had been arrested, and by a special court sentenced to 14 months of imprisonment - because I preferred the Christian philosophy of life to the national socialistic one. The worries, the atrocity of expulsion and expropriation with their cruel concomitants and consequences, and by now several years of unemployment and misery occurring through no fault of mine- these facts all severely worsened the ailments, not only of my wife, but also of my daughter. A very rare, but therefore even more commendable case shall be mentioned here: The local specialist of neurological diseases, Dr. Spernau, who had also been persecuted by the nazi regime, honoured our distress by treating my family and me free of charge since the spring of 1945; yet he, too, could only bring relief, but no cure, as can be proved. Completely trusting you and the power given to you by the Lord our God, we came to the house Wilhelmsplatz 7 in Herford on the 1st of June, 1949, and we stood in the garden of the house among the great crowd that was asking you for help. Our disappointment and bitterness was infinite when we were told that you weren‘t permitted to grant healing to a long-term suffering and incurably sick person because of a totally incomprehensible and unchristian "decree given by civil servants appointed by the people." ‘Belief can move mountains.‘ This was proven by the fact that my wife was healed, completely healed, although you have never seen nor spoken to her. Already while my wife was still standing among the crowd, her hands became swollen, and her fingers cramped. She got a strong headache in the rear part of her head. My daughter’s eyes were burning. Right after our return from Herford both of them had to go to bed immediately because of pain in all parts of their bodies and overwhelming exhaustion. In the night from the 1st to the 2nd of June, 1949, my wife could hardly sleep at all whereas my daughter experienced one of her calmest nights in years. Out of pain my wife didn‘t know where to put her head, feet, and arms. For years my wife had felt a terrible pressure in her neck up to the rear part of her head, in both shoulders, and in her left hip. She had lost this pressure already in the garden of the house Wilhelmsplatz 7 at the time when you were speaking to the crowd of sick people. The pain my wife had felt that night from June 1st to June 2nd had disappeared completely by early morning of June 2nd as well. During the day of June 2nd my wife didn‘t have any more complaints - in the night to June 3rd she felt pain again, although endurable, thus she could find some sleep. Since Friday, June 3, 1949, my wife has been without pain or complaints, completely healed. The shortness of breath, too, is completely gone. She can breathe deeply like a normal person now, without complaints. She can even carry heavy loads upstairs, which she hadn‘t been able to do for years. My daughter’s sufferings, according to existing medical certificates: hormonal insufficiency, fits of cramps caused by a nervous disorder and disharmony of the glands which originated in her [physical] development, nervous closing of her eye lids, faltering speech. According to the most recent medical certificate of the local specialist, the latter is very serious. Since the child has been near you three times already, these sufferings have become better, so that as parents we don‘t have to live worrying - as we did for years - that our child might be brought home by an ambulance in a bloody state. Nobody, no person, no public authority, and no so-called injunction, can hinder us from believing in the healing power that was been given to you by our Lord; and we will still look to get close to you. And, being full of belief in the grace that was lent to you by our Lord, we will ask you to give back health to our child. And we are firmly convinced that, with God’s help, you will achieve what the doctors failed to accomplish throughout nine, for us parents, worrisome years - in spite of all their good intentions and chemical medication. Again, dear Mr. Groening, we say Thank you and may God reward you. May the Almighty strengthen you in your suffering fight against the evil, and may He keep you alive a long time for suffering mankind! We think of you in our prayers. - With best regards and heartfelt thanks, sincerely and gratefully yours, (signatures) Leopold Steffan, Hilda Steffan, Luitgard Steffan
What Do the Events in Herford 25 Years Ago Mean to Bruno Groening-Friends Today?Herford should be to us what is most holy to a person. Here God revealed Himself to the people in order to show them how great He is and what He wants. He wants to give man, in present times and where he lives, the opportunity to find the way back to Him. And this happened through the mission of Bruno Groening. We may recognize, through Bruno Groening, the will of our Heavenly Father, according to which man shall be beautiful, good, and healthy. Therefore, He enabled in Herford that people who had fallen into need, misery, and ordeals of pain found salvation from evil. It happened openly; these biblical scenes occurred before everybody’s eyes. The world took notice and held its breath for a moment. We, Bruno Groening-Friends, are aware of the duty to bring the events of Herford close to the people of today and tomorrow in a way that they can also experience them the way we were allowed to in the time directly afterwards. Man will always call this a miracle because he can‘t understand what Bruno Groening explained to us: ‘This is no miracle, it is only God’s order entering man.’ This happening will not stop for a person who won‘t let himself be drawn away from the divine path which Bruno Groening opened for us. This event is divine; and now man of today has received the possibility to break away from the way of sorrow and to connect himself here in order to step onto the divine path and go forward on it. Now, after 25 years, we urge people to remember this time with burning hearts, in gratefulness towards our Creator and His servant Bruno Groening. We recognize the light which has come into the world. And we are shocked how the darkness of this world believed itself to be mighty and therefore wanted to forbid this event. Today we know what Bruno Groening knew already then: ‘This can‘t be forbidden. What should happen will happen.’ We are convinced that this flame of charity in Herford will never be stopped again in the future; but that this charity will become a duty and a matter of course among us people as these 25 years have proved. Serving charity is what Bruno Groening, as God’s servant, exemplified to us through his own life. And he called on us to make ourselves available as God’s tools, as well, by passing on real help and not to calm our needy neighbour with empty words. This is the legacy of Herford for us. What Knowledge Did Bruno Groening Already Give People in Herford?‘Believe and trust, the divine power helps and heals!’ Bruno Groening and Medical Science in HeidelbergLet us listen to Bruno Groening himself! ‘Re: Heidelberg Examination, 1949 - Short report which contains only the most important things. In June, 1949, I unjustly received an injunction against healing from the governmental side. It was unjust because not I, but "It" healed. The elucidating words I spoke to the assembled help-seeking people were of such penetrating power that the healing of many of the people present, i. e., help-seeking people who had already been called incurable by physicians, could occur. This was remarkable for very many people. Also Prof. F., living in Marburg at the time (in connection with the magazine "Revue"), was so impressed that he had already researched healed people, and by doing so he found out that, in fact, healings had taken place. This way the interest increased more and more, and it happened that then and there inquiries were made which also proved the success. I myself was not in Herford at the time, but in northern Germany. Prof. F. had mobilized everything in Herford. So I received the message in northern Germany to return to Herford immediately because a certain Prof. F. and other gentlemen were waiting for me with greatest interest: They had the intention to clear the way for me to work freely. I met with this request. In Herford I talked with Prof. F. Afterwards, I was promised every [possible] support from his side and in co-operation with Prof. W. and his hospital in Heidelberg. It wasn‘t only intended to clear the way for me, but the medical profession also had the greatest interest in me and my work. Already, for this reason, they aspired to bring about co-operation for all times. The gentlemen were very interested because - as they emphasized - they had convinced themselves 100 % of my effectiveness, and especially because all mankind should be given the benefit of my work. We agreed that I would be at the named professors’ disposal for ten days in the clinic of Heidelberg. This should also happen in order to prove to the whole medical profession that healings through the person Groening could be examined and advocated medically. A few days later I heard that the magazine "Revue" intended to finance this whole event. Just before the event a log-cabin near Frankfurt am Main was placed at my disposal; I could stay for a few days in order to have the opportunity to gather myself inwardly for my upcoming task.’ The magazine ‘Revue’ reported at the same time: ‘Bruno Groening before physicians of the Heidelberg University Clinic ... We agree with Dr. W. that the experiments shall commence on July 27, 1949. The patients shall be chosen from those who have written letters to Groening. There are actually over 80,000 existing letters: letters of sick people who have only one [last] hope: that Groening may be able to heal them, and letters of thanks from those people Groening has treated. We collected these 80,000 letters from Herford by lorry. A number of further patients shall be assigned for treatment from the Ludolf-Krehl Clinic. On July 26, "Revue" rented a separate house for Groening and the people closest to him in Heidelberg. There he shall practise. On the morning of July 27, Groening leaves the lonely house in the woods in the Taunus region and a few hours later arrives in Heidelberg safe and sound in our car. The magnetic tape recording excludes errors. Since the Heidelberg experiments the public no longer depends on more or less contradictory reports about the treatment methods of Groening. The reproduction of excerpts of these tapes gives a more convincing picture than long reports possibly could. On the next two pages "Revue" publishes excerpts which show one of the medically most interesting successes of Groening in, so to say, dramatic form. The remarks in parentheses about the behaviour of the patients were taken from shorthand protocols which were made up at the same time. Bruno Groening treats Strobel’s Bechterew disease. Excerpt from the magnetic tape recording: Strobel: (Feels sudden pain in his ischial bones on both sides.) The case Str., which called for attention in Heidelberg, became part of the evidence for the first expert opinion. Patient: Str. from Mannheim-Neckarau. Following is his medical history: Str. is on-the-job trained worker for a cable-rope manufacturer, born on Jan. 30, 1906, married since 1928, one child. Except for pneumonia he had never been sick previously. During the war he was injured three times by shell splinters in his legs and buttocks, 1944 bad accident. It was the impression that he had broken his neck. But that wasn‘t the case. 1945 prisoner of war, but already released in April of the same year. In August, 1945 complaints in the neck appear, then pain in the inguinal region, finally trouble when walking. Complete stiffening of the spine, unable to move the head, strong pain when walking [straight] and uphill. A typical case of Bechterew’s disease. At the beginning of the treatment he suffers badly, and with great trouble he gets into the treatment room. Picture no. 1 shows him among several other patients. Pict. 2: Groening has Str. stand up and lift his legs. Without pain Str. makes movements which had been impossible for him before. Pict. 3: Without special effort Str. bends torso forward and then backward. Pict. 4: Now he runs up the stairs in the big entrance hall of the "Rutenberg house" without difficulties. He is freed from year-long physical and psychological pressure. Medical check-up: "After the first treatment by Groening the walking disorder is completely gone. The patient feels well."’ This was a small excerpt from the magazine ‘Revue.’ Most remarkable is that medical terminology was applied to Bruno Groening - may it have been consciously or unconsciously -, and thus the magazine ‘Revue’ made public notice: Groening treats, the first treatment of Groening, Groening’s experiment, Groening’s successes, medically interesting success ... Groening’s patient. These expressions were later interpreted in such a way that Bruno Groening was supposed to be punished for them. And Bruno Groening fought for several years against them; and he was right because he had nothing to do with the treatment of an illness. He didn’t treat [a person], he certainly didn’t experiment, and the success that happened through his working he always ascribed to God Himself. During the last law-suit he was charged with all this, and no one believed his words that he didn‘t have anything to do with those activities. This booklet, too, wants to contribute to separate the expressions clearly and plainly. Therefore, also, a retrospect to the beginning. And now we listen to Bruno Groening himself again about the results of this Heidelberg Examination: ‘The medical examination led to a good result. Prof. F. told me this and also Dr. W., who had agreed to participate in this examination on Prof. F.’s request. On the basis of the results of this examination, I was given the firm assurance that the way for my further working would now be cleared definitively. I was supposed to be given sanatoriums at my disposal, and physicians should work in them. This should be in order for them to be able to control all cases in detail, and to get further confirmation, not only for the public, but also for medical science. The financial conditions, etc given by Prof. F. in this context were so that I couldn’t agree to them. Of course, many talks were done on this behalf, also with gentlemen who wanted to finance this work. I couldn’t agree to the propositions of Prof. F., and I refused because I
Therefore this was all an impossible request for me. In addition, I only wanted to act in the way I was given through my vocation: to help help-seeking people and therefore place myself at physicians’ and psychotherapists’ disposal, but never to make a business out of this whole thing. Prof. F. promised me after the examination that I would get a positive certification from him, as well as from Prof. W. I never received such a certificate. To the contrary, everything was interpreted to my disadvantage. Here, too, I had to find out again that the business side was given the greatest value. Where was the firmly promised clearing of the way so that I could work freely? For my first law-suit, in 1951, the public prosecutor required an expert opinion of the above mentioned Heidelberg Clinic. The court couldn‘t use this expert opinion because no answer to the questions put by the court could be found in it. This expert opinion proves to me again that the negative side was good enough for me, because the plan of the business relationship didn‘t come into being the way the gentlemen had intended it. The expert opinion was set up by red tape, and everything was put in it, also negative things about me which had accumulated at court and which hadn‘t even been proven. With this expert opinion the experts didn‘t honour themselves, but proved to me again how people can be. In addition, neither medical science nor psychotherapy was given honour. Of course, I don‘t belong to those people who treat everything alike, but I see this as an exception, and I know well to distinguish. Through the actions of the above named gentlemen of medical science and psychotherapy, the press now had all the more the opportunity to show the material they had at their disposal in a negative light.’ Bruno Groening’s Appearance in His EpochIn the year 1949 a book was published about our helpful friend and his work, which even after 25 years hasn’t lost its vividness and concentration on central issues. The journalist Dr. Kurt Trampler wrote the book ‘Die grosse Umkehr’ (The Great Turn-Around - not yet translated into English). The following paragraphs are taken from this book. ‘There was hardly an event in Germany in the year 1949 that found so much attention and deep sympathy within the people as everything that was told about Bruno Groening. The appearance of this man can’t be understood against the background of a materialistic conception of the world. That is perhaps the real cause for the controversy of opinions that erupted around his person and his healings: Everyone who is completely under the spell of materialistic thoughts and who can only believe in what he can touch with his hands, measure with machines or otherwise prove, won’t be able to understand the incomprehensibility of Groening’s work, and will look upon it in an intolerant way. But those who have kept a deep respect for the impenetrable, divine, and those who don‘t need reason or common sense for all their decisions, those will at least look into, with resoponsible honestnes, if Bruno Groening’s healing power arises from the eternal sources that lie beyond our thinking. On top of that they will be prepared to accept and believe phenomena they have watched meticulously, even though they fail to have an explanation for them. So Groening’s appearance - no matter what kind of insights about him and his work will be gained - this is the parting of the ways of those who are willing to accept the impenetrable as a vivid reality and the others who don’t. The feeling that the materialistic age is bound to destroy itself is a commonly held opinion nowadays. But here again the spirits will be parted into those who, in dull desertion, float towards the catastrophe or, if they belong to the powerful of this world, hope to survive this destruction with a certain morale of predators, and those who amongst this great chaos are of the imperturbable belief that a new age of life will begin and all life will be led into a new order to live again in harmony. People all over the world ask this question, and the answer is important because the meaning of life for them depends on it; that is why not only the sick who need help keep an eye on Groening. The healthy people ask themselves if his inexplicable healings are part of the signs that predict a change in the world. For many of the sick this last question is more important than their actual healing.’
The TE DEUM of RosenheimGroening’s meeting with innumerable thousands of help-seeking people at Traberhof near Rosenheim was an incident of dramatic power: The turning point in our time became evident with symbolical distinctness. The suffering, the rejected, the lonely, those battered by fate, those coming with their last hope for consolation and healing, they were all indicters of our materialistic age. In their bitter need they gave an indisputable testimony for its deadly failure. Inflicted with thousands of wounds and pain by the war, expelled from their native lands, left alone in despair and need, they came to Groening. Maybe only few were aware that by doing so they stepped out of dreadful times into a new age containing the belief that all living creation is a harmonious, organic unity which is inseparably connected to God. Yet, with all these people there was a vague feeling that by calling out to the healer they were fleeing from the cold, heartless distance to God which is connected to materialism, to the merciful kindness of God. The apocalyptic pictures of medieval painters seemed to become real when looking at the terror that had led people to come here. Incurable illnesses and wounds, psychological devastation, desperate fear of life, this all had shyly been hidden inside houses from the eyes of indifferent curiosity - here it became inexorably and inevitably visible. There were women and children with eyes full of torture burning in their pale, exhausted faces, eyes that couldn‘t even cry any more. There were people with amputated arms and legs and lame people completely unable to move. There were people shaken by horrible seizures with foam in their distorted faces and others who were quivering with untenable weeping. This is how they came here, how they were brought to this place - thousands and thousands, never ending. Vital energy and creative power, happiness and confidence, which they had previously possessed, lay crushed behind barbed wire fences of prison camps, was buried under the ruins of destroyed homes, was left in lost homelands. During these days and weeks I didn‘t meet a single person who wasn‘t deeply moved and disturbed by the excess of suffering and misery that nobody had ever imagined to be so terrifying. Also, whoever could take a look at the inestimable number of petitions in which all those complained about their sufferings, who - for health or economic reasons – hadn‘t even the possibility to undertake a journey to Groening - he knew that these people waiting for their last hope, shoulder to shoulder for many days, were only representatives of an endless mass of sick, disabled, and desperate people which is found everywhere where war and affairs of state, hatred and distrust move the destiny of a people. Of course, among these people were also many whose illnesses would have come into existence in deepest peace. Yet, the majority of all these help-seeking people were victims of the scientifically highly developed annihilation of people and the hardly bearable psychological burden of our time. Most of them were repatriated prisoners of war and disabled people, bombed out and refugees; exhausted, they had gone from office to office before they received some measly help, before they got a roof over their head in overcrowded barracks and apartments. They had been a number in innumerable offices, often they had found sullen and indifferent faces instead of the warmth of human readiness to help. And too often they had experienced that a rich person, who could himself give, would be given to more freely than a poor person, who carried no more than the burden of his misery. These people who waited for Bruno Groening didn‘t belong to the easily impressed or enthusiastic crowds. Most were stuporous, sceptical, apathetic, but had a keen ear for any injustice and empty phrases. They could be convinced only by helpful deeds. It was the days and nights before the great healing on September 9th, 1949. Groening was in the northern part of Germany at the time when the first long-distance healings occurred among the waiting people. Under the overwhelming impression of these events a change slowly took place among the sick people: They had witnessed a force for which no human explanation exists, and this force brought help where no man had been able to help before. Those witnessing these events weren‘t studied people who needed to analyse "wonders" and reconcile them with their books. They were nothing but people requiring help, people who hadn‘t found human help anywhere, people who had gone through all stages of misery and ordeal. Therefore they were, just at this moment, mature enough to recognize God’s hand in the healing they received. They experienced the divine power giving them a sign and lifting them out of the rigid mechanisms of the materialistic time. These people, the poorest of the poor, were rich in this hour, for they experienced a change in their hearts which some healthy, well-off people will never experience in their lives. Again, the people were waiting in the deep darkness of the night. And then it happened that some people, who perhaps hadn‘t spoken these words for a long time, began to pray, and then more and more people joined in till they all spoke unanimously: "Our Father who art in heaven ..." And then the TE DEUM sounded in seriousness and solemnity. Perhaps an even greater wonder than the healing of paralysed limbs or disordered nerves happened in this touching hour: People had found their way to God. When Bruno Groening stood before the help-seeking people the following afternoon, he found them inwardly as purified as hardly ever before, ready to receive healing. For almost one hour he quietly stood in front of the praying crowd assimilating their misery. When he began to speak redeeming words about God, the father and physician of all people, downright biblical scenes became reality: Sick people got up from their stretchers, the paralysed threw away their crutches and were able to walk, a blind child could see, calls of thanks announced every new healing, only a part of which could be visible from the outside. Two months later, and probably for a long time afterwards, more and more healings that had been accomplished or initiated during these days became known. From the terrace of the Traberhof, one of our best physicians witnessed these events. He disclosed with great emotion that he was going to take the events of this hour with him into his professional life. He was convinced that man is but nothing without God’s grace and that neither knowledge nor ability can lead man to wholeness and salvation if he isn‘t humbly worthy of this grace. It turned dark outside again. Bruno Groening, who had been travelling extensively and gone without sleep for days, removed himself and sat quietly aside before turning again to several severe cases. With a habit expressing kindness and mercy, he was listening to the people seeking his help. No one in the room utters a word. No one is able to express the deeply-moving feelings we all have. Instead, outside the crowds are intoning - just like an answer to all our hopeful, questioning thoughts: Thy kingdom come.’ He Who Does Not Want to Hear the Word Doesn‘t Need to Seek Help and HealingDr. Trampler realized, in 1949, what kind of secret is behind Bruno Groening’s words, and we know that this secret is the key for all Bruno Groening-Friends, nowadays and in the future, to experience the effects of the divine power. We can read in his book grosse Umkehr’ (The Great Turn-Around): ‘In all those differences of opinion about Bruno Groening, journalists, doctors, scientists have always tried to understand Groening’s proven successful healings with their own intellectual way of looking at things, and by examining the healed persons they hoped to find the secret of Groening’s power. Curiously enough, not many looked for answers in the obvious source: Groening’s own words. People made a superficial habit of looking at Groening’s speeches, interviews, and conversation only as something accompanying his healing successes which could be forgotten about, and they never realized that in his words they would get the only key to understanding the inexplicable phenomena surrounding him. Some of the ill, who, while visiting Groening, could feel the healing power clearly, couldn‘t be healed in spite of it - I am firmly convinced only because they had failed to take Groening’s words in and to take them to heart. The words, each of them important enough to think about properly, are in Groening’s healings of prime importance, so that one could easily say: Those who don‘t want to listen to the word don’t need to look for healing, because the word is the guiding power to preserve the healing. - "I give you the knowledge that ..." - If Groening starts a statement like this, it is no set phrase, but this sentence means: He gives his audience a present, something of the essence of his power, something they could have only guessed so far, but what they know now for sure. Let us listen to one of his speeches (Traberhof, August 27th, 1949, in the evening), and what he says about his healings himself: " - Who receives and who has a right to receive the healing? Only that one has the right who carries the divine faith in himself and who proposes to live with it. Furthermore, there are people who have lost their faith, who put it aside years ago and who even dragged it into the mud. I let you know, that all of you who live here on this great divine world, are children of God. The only physician, the doctor of all mankind, is, and will always be, our Lord God. Only He can help. But He only helps those people who have found their way to God or who are at least prepared to set out on this way, to take in this faith and to live accordingly. You don‘t need to believe in the little Groening, but you have to trust in me and you should thank our Lord God for His great deeds, His great power and His glory. No, I don’t want to be thanked, because I don‘t deserve it. I only do my duty as you do your duty in your jobs ... It depends on man himself how he has freed himself. That means, he has to be pure in heart. He must know that he is no blasphemer. He must know that he is obliged to live with our Lord God. Then he is pure in heart." Even in private conversations I often heard Groening say that he was responsible to God to carry out the "healing with the pure divine power" only with those sick who at least were of the good will to live under divine law, and to exclude the healing to those who weren‘t prepared to let go of evil. He said: "I could carry out a mass healing by saying: All the sick people of this town or this country shall be healthy again! But wouldn’t there be more lost than won? Would the bad ones among the diseased really be ready to turn around and change their way of life? Wouldn’t they misuse their regained health? No! First of all man must be prepared to achieve an inner change, to tear out the devilish from his mind and to find the way to God. Only then is he worthy of being healed." Groening’s opponents attacked this attitude vehemently because they deduced in it the danger that every sick person not healed by Groening would feel expelled by God and would suffer under this anguish even more than before. Groening himself disapproves of this interpretation of his words and he calls them malicious. Those who are used to thinking about words carefully can only read in Groening’s words that the evil, the blasphemers, are generally excluded from the healing. That again doesn‘t mean that all the others will be healed. It only means that they have the right to ask for the healing. If it really takes place in each case there are a few other criteria that lie beyond the judgement of the patient, - questions and criteria Groening doesn‘t like to talk about, not even in his intimate circle. Groening said about the reasons for the crisis of mankind which we witness today: (Traberhof, August 31st, 1949 in the eveving): "Centuries ago man forgot about nature, and he forgot about our Lord God. Everybody believed he could manage without God. ‘Now that we are on this earth, we can manage alone, and we will be able to help ourselves when necessary,’ they believed. But I give you the knowledge that nobody can get help without our Lord God. And all of those who want to escape the nature that our Lord has created so beautifully for us can go wherever they want to. People believed they could stand out from one another by turning their back on nature and climbing up the stairs of culture. But there is the mistake, that is exactly what people lack: Nature. Back to nature! Back to our Lord, back to belief in the good in man! Hatred and envy hadn’t only been amongst the Germans, they had been among all the peoples of the world. That must end. But it can only end if everybody trusts in God again. Then there won’t be any more spiteful things among people, even among the peoples of the world. That is the way world peace can be assured."’ ‘Die grosse Umkehr’ is well capable of answering lots of questions for people who want to live according to Groening’s ideas, as he himself has well defined all the essential principles of his teachings right from the start. That is why we want to take a look at some questions and answers Bruno Groening gave in 1949. They are all written down in ‘Die grosse Umkehr.’ At the Traberhof, on the evening of August 27th, 1949, our helping friend told all the people who wanted to receive the healing what he expected of them: ‘Be human to humans. Love your neighbours as yourself! Don‘t be spiteful or false, don’t do wrong to anybody! Be good, good to each other! You all belong to each other, no matter if you are rich or poor. Don’t be jealous! The one owns things, the other doesn’t. But the best and greatest wealth isn’t our money, as you perhaps thought, wealth is health. Health is everything, more than money can buy. That is why you have no right to tell somebody who has a bit more money than you have that he is richer than you are.’ In Rosenheim, October 17th, 1949, Bruno Groening talked about religion and confession: "You have to trust in me, but not only if you stand in front of me, but everywhere, no matter where you are. But the most difficult part is that man follows exactly the divine faith which is in him and lives accordingly. It shouldn’t just be like people have imagined until now, that they go to church, God’s house, once a week on Sundays where they pray, and that was it for the rest of the week, and then they can do whatever they want to for the rest of the week. That is wrong. When I say, I believe in God, I have to be a good person, a good example, I have to show that I am a good human being." Between Groening’s speech one of the people seeking help thanked Groening for the healing he had received a few moments earlier. Groening continued his speech with the following words: "I am not entitled to receive your thanks. Don’t thank me. Thank the Lord God. Thank Him for all of your life! Prove that you are really a religious man. Go to church and pray in deep devotion! Not as it has been before: that some, maybe many, have gone there to see what the others wear, to gossip about them, and do other bad things which I have seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. You shouldn’t do that. When you go to church, worship the Lord and thank Him for all the good He has done for us." These words show Groening’s disapproval of some people trying to found a sect around his person. He sends the people into the churches of their own faith. He asks a deeper religious life of them. So you could realize in his audience that they were strengthened in their own and not a new or at least changed religious conviction. They realized as well that the healing processes were only a visible sign of their faith and that they could accompany the healings with prayers of thanks in their own church, so that no one could criticize their behaviour as not being appropriate. "I want you all to be good and faithful," Groening said to his listeners very often. He warned the cured of the power of the evil, and he drew their attention to the fact that not only the repulsive things are bad, but the evil is rather more often to be found in temptation, no matter what disguise it has chosen. Once he answered my question: "Today, obviously nine tenths of the people are somehow engaged with the evil. I have to change all of that. I have to tear them from the evil so that in the end nine tenths of them are good." The role of the evil as a counterpart as well a measurement of the Good he held as eternal. There will always be people who have signed away their souls to the evil so that they can‘t be saved. But Groening believes that most of the people, although they committed some wicked deeds, are just the victims of their environment and their own weakness and that they bear somehow the desire for the Good in their hearts. Those are the people he wants to help in particular. In one of those conversations about good and evil I mentioned the freedom of will. He very decidedly spoke against interference with free human will. "I may help a person to find his way to the Good, but I am not allowed to make his decisions for him, and I can’t force him to do good. Everyone has got to find his own way." As he didn’t want to interfere with the freedom of decision-making, he disapproved vehemently of suggestion and hypnosis as something being created by the devil. It is interesting as well to tell what the poorest of the poor who had some "incurable" diseases said, waiting for Groening on the Traberhof, because it shows their devotion and faithfulness to him. Over and above the healing process they felt happy and secure, because they had found a generous and kind readiness to help, without having to supply proof of neediness, without questionnaires, forms or formalities. Especially those ashamed impoverished, who - unable to find financial means to restore their health – hadn’t learnt to ask others for help, were extremely thankful to have found this man who helped them selflessly on purely humanitarian grounds without even asking them for their names. Those who don’t know Groening any better first ask him the question: "Which illnesses are you able to cure?" Groening explains that he is able to cure principally every suffering but not necessarily every human being. But in some cases of serious illnesses it would be important in which stage the help seeking person was. There were some diseases, he explained, he could take away within seconds. Other help-seekers again would have to be prepared for a longer time of adjustment. "I have to revive," he said, "what has been dead for a long time. Not everyone can feel at once that the new life has moved in. Sometimes people have to wait for quite a while but then it appears all of a sudden, it depends of course if he hasn‘t been infected by the evil spirit of doubt, scepticism and lack of faith." To those people seeking to find their healing and who had to be prepared to encounter some longer period of wait, he loved to say: "Being changed to be good is worth a lot, too." In fact this sentence appears again and again. It is supposed to tell the person it was said to that a change had been made and that it was now his own responsibility what he would make out of it. So one of his speeches ended like this: "What you wanted to receive, you have got, now it is up to you to keep it." To retain the new health undoubtedly asks a lot of faith and spiritual discipline of the cured. The staying power of the newly achieved health is decided on this point. Quite often the pain of Regelungen* confuses the help-seekers. But this pain of Regelungen has got to be there, as Groening said. Sometimes the people fear that when the Regelung pain starts it is in fact a relapse. Some of them even said: "It is even worse now, we have to go to the doctor."Groening answered: "That is why I want to tell you, when the Regelung begins, just endure it. Nothing serious can happen; the only thing that happens is that a man gets well again." Part of this necessary trust is that the help-seekers can have faith in Groening when he says that once the healing power has been taken in by them, it will continue to work on its own and that Groening himself, as he always stresses, is present to help the sick person, even though he may be far away. "He who trusts in me goes home, but who mistrusts me, stays here," he answered many seekers for healing when they wrongly imagined to get more healing power if they travelled everywhere he travelled, and when they then plagued him with their wishes. In reality they disturbed their own healing process with their great hurry and restlessness and received, even if they saw Groening daily, much less than anyone else who modestly and faithfully, perhaps with an aluminium foil ball in his hands, looked into their hearts. It is the way inward that leads to the goal! God gives everything to the humble, confident and faithful - that is the admonition Groening once gave help-seekers and with this remark he clearly opposed those who demanded his help and his healing power like policy holders who asked the insurance company for payment because of the monthly fee they had paid, or to those who tried to tell him how to fulfil his mission (of course helping them first). Many of the questions raised deal with the aluminium foil balls or other "addressed" things. Those who are able to concentrate, who are able to look into their hearts won’t be in need of Groening’s physical presence to receive the healing because every "addressed" thing and even via a bridge of thoughts they will be able to feel the metaphysical presence of Groening. The healing ball (or any other "addressed" thing) will be the connection to him as Groening said, but it will as well be the connection to the healing heavenly rays. Both of them are necessary for the healing process. Groening: "When I have touched a ball - just a little parable of our world - so all of the existing rays our earth is surrounded by will be in it and it will bring this person a never ending connection with the heavenly rays. The moment this man or woman holds the ball in his/her hands, he/she experiences a total adjustment. All the cells in the nervous system will react, so that the blood circulation gets into motion again. All the diseases of the organs and limbs will be fought with the Heilstrom*, even those serious diseases such as tuberculosis, bone atrophy, problems with the spinal column or other bones, or cancer in the beginning stage can be cured. There is nothing one couldn’t oppose with the help of the ball. "Of course," Groening reacts to my objection, "there are people who are good and faithful, but at first don´t know what to do at all with this ball. Their main mistake is their impatience. On top of that the sensory nerves of many humans have grown so weary that they have to be revived first. That can take minutes, hours, days or even weeks. In spite of that the power of the ball starts to heal the moment it has been touched the first time, but the ill person won’t notice it at first." To use these "addressed" things it is of course very important to make some inward preparations, but seemingly small but very important external preparations as well. Your back should not rest against the chair, neither should your legs touch each other, nor your hands. If the hands touched Groening said there could be a short-circuit of the Heilstrom* in the upper part of the body, and if you touched or even crossed your legs, you could cause the same damage in your lower part of the body. Those who make these mentioned mistakes regularly could, in the long term, even develop some nasty diseases. I asked him, too, if he would take his power to heal people once with him to the grave, and he answered: "When I am no longer here, the people will be able to heal themselves." The Great Turn Around Just the appearance of so many people seeking help and hope on the Traberhof near Rosenheim was a great indictment of our hopeless times. In the more than a quarter million letters to Bruno Groening this is openly expressed and sometimes, even more shockingly, between the lines. The technical and materialistic development leads, through specialization, to a destruction of the circle of life and the great inventions only serve the purpose of enabling the will to destruction more efficiency than ever before. We have to leave that mechanical age to enter an age of the living, where the technical powers (in the wider sense) are no longer the demons but the servants of humankind and that the laws of the big religions will be valid again for the relationships among single humans and for the relationship among the different peoples. Groening predicted that the people would still learn during his life how to heal themselves with the power he mediated them. But the connecting link between then and the future where people can heal themselves has got to be: the great turn around! What this turn around has to be like and where it has to lead us, we can probably see clearest if we examine where the wrong way, which we have gone so far, has led us to. That there is one man who is able to reach the healing streams out of the unknown infinity and that he, by touching any thing, can transfer this power of life to that thing, and that he doesn’t want anything else with this power in his hands than to help mankind to turn away from the self-destructive materialism and to realize the existence of God - that could be one of the signs to announce a real turn of an era. All the cities in our nuclear age and their innumerable workers and their scientists won’t be able to create such a power of the Good, the healing, that flows to the faithful out of one single ball which Groening has touched once.’ So far Dr. Trampler. Groening - a Documentary FilmIn the middle of the events at the Traberhof near Rosenheim between August 15th and September 29th, 1949, this documentary was filmed. In the year 1974 Bruno Groening’s teachings have only been kept in the minds of a small number of Friends and help-seekers. In publicity the name has totally been put aside. That Bruno Groening didn’t want to hide his light under a bushel is to be seen in his positive attitude towards the documentary of the year 1949. He didn’t want to have any sensational announcements in film magazines, but the Truth. This film shows a phase of his life that tells us a lot about his efforts and his wishes if we watch it with real inner calmness. In the ‘Filmkurier’ it was described:
‘The man who became the focus of public attention:
Documentary, Production Rolf Engler-Film
Music: Georg Engler An extract out of the article in the Kurier: ‘Groening has been called the "Messiah of Herford". Groening, a deeply religious person, has disapproved vehemently of this name. In the middle of uncountable people, in front of the eyes of some high medical faculties, he performed some unique cures which nobody had accomplished before. The number of those who will trust in him will be in the millions! The interest in the film "Bruno Groening" will be enormous because it shows in compelling pictures, in pure rational speech, Groening’s wondrous working amidst a diseased, suffering humanity. We look into the face of this thin ascetic, we realize the powerful tension, deeply immersed in his task to ease the pain of some sick people, to help them. We are witnesses as well of his lively discussions, and the wandering away of his eyes into far distances ... Who is this man who has found such a lot of attention and interest, whom the medical world starts to call a "man without parallel?"’ The headlines: ‘A man of the people’ And Bruno Groening himself writes the preface to the film: ‘The film which authentically reports about my healing methods bears my name. I am glad that its documentary character offers the possibility to show everything which has been written, reported and told about me, my doings, my successes, and my alleged limits, in the true light in public without prejudices. May this film, because of its matter-of-fact account of my activities, explain what I strive after with all my heart and untiring work:
Bruno Groening’s PathHaving reached the peak of his career- the whole world knew about his work, there were two possible ways for Bruno Groening: to continue his life, the way to make him the richest man in the world, to give him honour and glory, or the way of humility. From the day Groening had been dragged into the public eye, people realized that they had found a man who was very different to other humans. He was someone they could become well known with and earn a lot of money with. That is why there have always been people around him who plagued him with their so-called readiness to help. They actually were around him all his life and made his life rather difficult for him. Money or glory? The editor of the magazine ‘Die Umkehr’ (The Turn Around) writes in 1950, first among other things: ‘For Groening it would be easy to become the richest person in the whole world if it was possible to buy health from him. Probably nobody would blame him for it, because this action would undoubtedly be understood in our materialistic time. The fact that he doesn‘t want any money, but that he expects a total turn around of the sick people who seek help from him is beyond usual and expected rules of conduct in our materialistic times, and therefore arouses suspicion with those who can’t understand that a person of the 20th century isn’t at all interested in money.’ What does Bruno Groening want to achieve? He wants to help and heal people and he wants to show them the way to God; he himself says: ‘I want to make them good and faithful, I want to give them back the divine instinct which they have lost. To accomplish this is my task.’ He looks for a way to work freely and independently and he looks for helpers to accomplish it. What have those ‘helpers’ offered him? In Herford an association called Pharmadyn e. V., Bielefeld, represented by the acting managing secretary Prof. Dr. B., offered to recruit more members who then could, free of charge, be members of the ‘Ring der Bruno Groening-Freunde’ (Ring of Bruno Groening’s-Friends). So on July 12th, 1949, in Herford, Wilhelmsplatz 7, they agreed on the following:
As we have already come to know after the medical inspection and examination in the clinic in Heidelberg, which led to really good results, Bruno Groening was finally promised to be able to work freely and independently. Sanatoria, in which physicians should work as well, should be available to him. The physicians should be there to control and examine the cases a bit more closely so as to have more proof and confirmation, not only for the public, but for the sake of medicine as well. A totally different offer being made by the family Harwart to come to the Traberhof without any financial commitment was accepted by Bruno Groening and in future he called this house his sanatorium. The call for more clinics was enormous and Bruno Groening’s staff of that time promised him to find some more. Several had been offered. The organization of friends of cultural films in Zurich made efforts to make Bruno Groening popular in Switzerland by putting the following advertisement, together with a photograph of Groening, into a Swiss newspaper: "Groening heals again! That is the latest headline of the German special editions. Go and watch this objective and highly interesting documentary about Bruno Groening which has been filmed under strictest control of physicians and officials; and form your own opinion about this man who, with his new healing methods, is being awaited by hundreds of thousands of people: Next Sunday, 10.30 a.m., Film-Matinee (10th repetition)" May 4th, 1950, an article about Groening was published in the ‘Wochenpost’ (Weekly Post): ‘Groening being seen under a new light! Tempting dollars ... but Groening didn’t go!’ Here is an extract of this article: ‘All of a sudden the silence is disturbed by the sound of an engine. A car stops in front of the gate. Voices can be heard, they ask for Groening. A male figure appears in the door to announce that an American and someone from the film industry have come to talk about important matters with him. It is an American journalist, a representative of a world news agency, and a representative of a leading German film company, who want to invite him for a tour of America. Groening listens carefully to them and is willing to negotiate a possible journey with the visitors. "You will be our guest, Mr Groening!" says the American journalist introducing the journey, and he tries to present Groening with an already fully worked out plan for the visit. So Groening should go to America for a few weeks to cure some wealthy American patients. The money he would get for that work should help him build his sanatoria in Germany. As America has to be prepared with the right propaganda first, Bruno Groening shouldn’t take an aeroplane to go to America, but should cross the Atlantic by ship. The American thought about it shortly and then added that he had already made sure that Groening would be allowed to see ill passengers, coincidentally present, whom he could try to heal. "It will be a smash hit," the film producer remarked. "You can’t imagine what kind of a reception you will get in New York: of course you will have to commit yourself to keeping the prearranged dates to guarantee a trouble-free tour! For the mass healings there you will be able to make use of some different halls like, for example, the Madison Square Garden in New York, which can hold more than 20,000 people. A full house can be guaranteed already today. Of course the spectators will have to pay some admission fee," the American emphasized. "I think we could ask some five to thirty dollars for a seat," added the film producer and he went on: "We could organize as well a visit to the Quakers and other American assistance organizations. That those healings will be free of charge goes without saying, Mr Groening. At the same time we could start a community of interest in the States. We personally would make sure that you would be isolated during your visit to the States, to prevent you from getting in touch with some of those ruthless profiteers!"’ Groening received those and similar offers until he went home to his Lord. During his last years in France BRUNO GROENING was again presented with an offer that could have solved all of the financial problems he had because of the court proceedings. He resisted it because he didn‘t want to be dependent. And in spite of everything he took it with a sense of humour and shouted at the Friends in Rosenheim: ‘You are really bad!’ and they answered him, ‘yes, it‘s good you didn‘t accept the offer.’ Why Bruno Groening didn‘t take those tempting offers, nobody could understand, neither friend nor opponent. He - alone and totally on his own - took the path fraught with difficulty, he took the path of humility. He himself uses the following words to describe it: ‘Why do I do this, anyway? Why do I do what I do for mankind? What do I want to get out of the sick people, what do I want to get at all? Do I want to earn money, do I want to become rich, or do I want to help the people? Well, and if they say I want to become rich, to have a lot of money or property, I could prove to them that the opposite is true. Well, but it is true, I have become rich, I won‘t deny it. I want to tell you that I really became a rich man since they have dragged me before the public. But in spite of that I’m not big, not eminent, but rich. - rich in the power to help and heal people. ... My way is the same, it is a path of suffering. I don’t suffer for myself, I wouldn’t need to. If I had really wanted to, I could have acquired a lot of money and possessions; it would have been easy, I would already be the richest man on this little earth, but I would only have a lot of money and possessions. As I disapprove of this, you shouldn‘t offer me money. I would reject it. And if I tell you that I don’t get a penny for what I do at the moment, it is the truth. I don’t need it, and still in spite of my loving kindness and helpfulness, I have to suffer. Under no circumstances do I want to show off with this fact. It’s only that there are so many people around who don‘t understand anything.’ Now let us remember again the different stages of his thorny path: Because of the prohibition to heal in Herford, Bruno Groening sought for a way to work freely and independently. So he asked Egon Arthur Schmidt to found the ‘Ring der Freunde Bruno Groenings’ (Ring of Bruno Groening’s Friends) in Herford. So he went to Heidelberg to show the doctors his healing abilities. So he agreed, after the period at the Traberhof, that Otto Meckelburg founded the ‘Organisation zur Erforschung Groeningscher Heilmethoden’ (Organization to Examine Groening’s Healing Methods). So he welcomed the fact that people wanted to put sanatoria at his disposal. So he had to stand trial in 1952/53, and although he was found not guilty, he had to get an official certificate from the state that allowed him to perform ‘his art of healing.’ So he accepted even this degradation and he applied to take an examination as a non-medical practitioner. So he allowed Bachmann to open a ‘Biologisch-dynamisches Labor’ (Biological-Dynamic Laboratory) in his name to produce two biological active substances ‘G52’ and ‘L52.’ So he finally found a way to start the ‘Bruno Groening Bund’ (Bruno Groening Alliance). Even after his second marriage, he didn‘t have any time for a private life. In order to be able to meet the demands of his work, he sacrificed all of his time. His thorny path was fraught with lots of difficulties and court proceedings and finally with the big trial. He made it possible to found ‘Verein zur Förderung seelisch-geistiger und natürlicher Lebensgrundlagen’ (Organization to Support the Mental-Psychological-Spiritual and Natural Purpose in Life) in Germany and Austria. And with greatest humility and devotion he went to Paris to sacrifice his own life. We humans should be very careful with the word ‘sacrifice.’ But in Bruno Groening’s case, when he died in Paris, it is used correctly, this word shows the grave truth about his life. Bruno Groening’s ‘Being Here’‘I let you know,’ Bruno Groening said very often. Well, where did he get his knowledge from? Where did this simple, self-confident man get the power for his activities from? ‘All of it was in me ...’ he said. ‘It is no human, but a divine power.’ ‘I feel obliged to give mankind back its balance to make the triumph of mind over matter possible.’ ‘The human race has to be made fully conscious of the fact that the body can only be valuable if it lives according to the divine order.’ ‘It should never happen that a body rules the spirit, but the spirit should rule the body.’ ‘Man act according to his will, the will forms the thoughts, and the thoughts let man act.’ What was Bruno Groening’s will? ‘You belong to each other. Love your neighbour as yourself. It is my wish, it is my will, that this happens. The moment it happens, the people will congregate again and everyone will receive the divine help.’ Bruno Groening made his wish come true. He helped the people to congregate, whenever he could. After his time at the Traberhof he worked relentlessly. Wherever he appeared, he was surrounded by people who were seeking help and healing, and everywhere the great and impossible happened. He informed the people about the most important fact of life and he helped people to find their well-being. That’s the way it happened in countless individual visits and meetings in pubs, in hotels, in private rooms, yes even in the street or at petrol stations. And Groening could be found everywhere in Germany, and if reporters were looking for him, he had just been there, but nobody knew where he had gone. He always went where he felt drawn to, where he knew help-seekers would wait for him with all their heart. The sanatoria he had so desperately wished for were never realized. Bruno Groening was deeply disappointed by the people who worked with him and by the authorities. When the non-medical practitioner Enderlin from Munich let him use his private flat for lectures, Bruno Groening came to Schwabing, Nicolaiplatz, regularly. There are many letters of thanks and reports in the archives about cured illnesses during this period. After that he gave lectures in the house of the Countess Weikersheim, Gräfelfing. There are reports about this period, as well. When Bruno Groening had to stand trial because of a violation of the non-medical practitioner law and he was proven not guilty, his lawyer, Dr. A. Roedel, published the following article in a newspaper: ‘The non-practitioner law is not valid for Groening. The social existence of people follows certain rules which have inevitably evolved from the very beginnings of mankind and which determine the rights of every single human being and the rights of society. The social existence of man is based on the acceptance of certain basic requirements, which on the other hand result from the structure of human nature. That is why we call these rules natural rights. This natural right has been laid down by the main religious communities as the commandments. Later it was taken over by all peoples, partly as customary right and partly as written law and it became the basis for all the great corpora of law. Just like the claim for a sufficient supply of food is based on natural right, so is health a valuable good of man and its preservation or restoration belong to the natural right of every single human being. This inalienable right corresponds so much with the basic human longings so that any impairment will be regarded as an unacceptable interference and will never find approval or even attention. Just as the yearning for health and healing can’t be restricted by legal measures, the power to heal can’t be restricted. Every written law which doesn’t meet these requirements contradicts the natural law and will, therefore, not be accepted, but will be ignored until some sensible legislator will set it right. One of those laws that are disregarded is the non-medical practitioner law, which became law on February 17th, 1939. Developed out of the spirit to rule everything, to regard the state as an all-pervading power, and to suppress the rights of the individuals, this law is a typical law of this past epoch when every footstep was being watched and any development of individuality was regarded as being high treason. There are people who possess impenetrable powers and who are prepared to use these powers only to serve mankind and to help in cases in which today’s medical knowledge can’t cure or relieve. This possibility to help the suffering is definitely a natural right for all mankind and can’t be restricted or even prohibited by law. One of those gifted people who is able to help others, and who is given the power to heal, especially illnesses that can’t be cured by others, is Bruno Groening, a divinely gifted physician, from birth, by the grace of God, a deeply religious man, who, urged on by his mission, only wants to dedicate his powers to the benefit of all mankind and all the diseased and the ones looking for healing. To help him, and consequently the ill people, is our task, so that his healing powers won’t be suffocated in the jungle of restricting paragraphs. If we ask now, as well behaved subjects, not tormented by sickness, free of any impulse, servants of that law if Groening’s activities can be brought into accord with the non-medical practitioner law we have to consider the following: Even under this non-medical practitioner law everyone was allowed to heal people, if he didn‘t do it professionally to earn money. The explanation of this law says that persons who want to help their fellow men to prevent illnesses or to heal them in a selfless way shouldn‘t be hindered doing so. Not professional: Groening never took any money for the healings. His motto is: Those who couldn’t be cured anywhere else should come to him, they should leave their money and their fears at home, but they should bring time and faith along. Faith, because it is the imperative prerequisite for every healing, and time because every healing needs time. Groening’s free and independent healing is not even subject to the non-medical practitioner law. It says in § 8 of the decree to implement this law that the one who wants to apply for a registration as a non-medical practitioner has to establish proof of his ability to heal patients and his healing successes for the last three years. In this case Groening must be allowed to do his free service of love, and from that point of view even the custodians of the law will have to grant him permission to perform his healings to show and prove his success. Even according to a strict interpretation of this law one will have to admit that an activity which serves the exploration of his powers is definitely no professional performance, because in this intermediate stage Groening, too, must have the possibility to work and research. In order not to lose this man, a generous administration of the state will give him a special licence already today because Groening has proven his healing powers often enough in public, and the public and the authorities should know about that fact. One should think that in this special case the bureaucratic application of the law could be disregarded in favour of all the many or, rather, too many, ill and all the people looking for healing. Then the state would prove that it really cares for the well-being of its subjects.’ We know today that Bruno Groening never got a special licence nor was he ever allowed to become a non-medical practitioner. What could Bruno Groening do after all this foolishness of the authorities? In his notebook we find some entries that show his utmost indignation: ‘Who gives whom the right to forbid me to heal ill people who have actually been given up by the physicians? Comparison: a smashed jug, or similar things, mountains of rubbish. Countless numbers of ill (see Traberhof) in flats and hospitals are waiting, full of hope, to receive healing. Who assumes responsibility? In the name of all the ill people, I accuse those who forbid me to heal the ill! An illegal law can‘t (and doesn‘t) exist in Germany or in any other country. A father is responsible for his family. He has to care for the well being of all the family members, too. (as in "Vater Staat"* ) a) Who constitutes a state? - The people Bruno Groening never gave up searching for the possibility to let the people have the help and healing without getting into conflict with worldly laws. He had been looking for a solution and had worked restlessly until he could tell his Friends on June 9th, 1953: ‘My dear Friends, uncountable cries for help reach me daily from all over the world. Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to follow them all. Therefore it is necessary to build a sanatorium where I can work and put things on an orderly basis. I was offered a lot of money for that purpose, but I had to reject it because my work doesn’t tolerate profiteers. I can only accept help of people who are pure in heart. That is the reason why I decided to found a company (Ltd.) under my name, that will produce medicine according to my instructions in co-operation with me. So the ill in the whole world can be helped and I can obtain the necessary means to build a sanatorium. I have a laboratory equipped with all the modern and technical equipment and a staff of scientists. Under my instructions some medicine has already been produced with, so far, unequalled good healing results. The University of Munich and several physicians have tested these new active substances and they obtained excellent results. I was therefore granted a licence to manufacture these medicines by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior. The pharmaceutical industry shows a lot of interest in these preparations: Factories from abroad want to take over the sale of the products, some well known West German firms offered to buy some of the recipes.’ And miraculously, like all the things Groening did for the people looking for help, the medicine worked and healed. Attests and medical reports proved the high effectiveness of the preparations ‘L52’ and ‘G52.’ But this enterprise of Bruno Groening failed, too, because some of the people who had promised to help him with this business hadn’t been pure in heart and had only helped him because of expected financial advantage. As always, the so-called ‘Friends’ couldn’t understand Groening’s reaction towards them and in the end opposed him violently, they even fought him with all their financial means. Those peculiar events around Groening sometimes weren’t understood even by his closest Friends. Only those who trusted him totally could realize why Bruno Groening had to act in the special way his mission demanded from him. Once in a lecture he plausibly explained his reasons for his reactions: ‘Some people couldn’t stop trying to earn money with the knowledge and the abilities of this little man. They thought they had found a bonanza, and they even had the possibility to earn some money, but, thanks to God, they gained nothing by it. But people like these had t o be there in order to show who man is, that he will betray his own kind, never taking into consideration if the sick will be helped or not. There are people who would sell their own grandmother, they could see the sick, but still wouldn’t help them. Those people have never asked how to help, but have tried everything to be near me. I know that occasionally the question is raised: "If he knows such a lot, why didn’t he know about that, maybe he doesn’t know anything after all." If and how much I know, you will come to know little by little. But this had to be done! Thius material was missing which is necessary to make the way for you free. I need certain individuals, that means, so to say: He has got to take the blame for it." He didn’t know why I tolerated him at my side. He was allowed to because I knew what he was up to. He never did any real harm. Future will show that I will thank those people. All their names will be put in a booklet so that they won’t be forgotten. So far their names have been printed in newspapers, but newspapers get thrown away, whereas a booklet is being kept, everybody can see who they are.’ What Bruno Groening says here is rather unusual for us and it is especially unusual to hear that someone who knows in advance that some other human is going to harm him still accepts him to be at his side, and he even gives him the opportunity to do good. Well, he knows that this person in the end will do the opposite of good. In spite of that, Bruno Groening let those people be near him again and again. In 1954 he said to me: ‘I know everything. But if I say: he is a liar, a betrayer, a thief, nobody would believe me. I have to give the person concerned the chance to change and later the freedom, and if he lies, betrays or steals, only then will the others realize who he is. And then I am no coward to fight.’ So Bruno Groening, in the end, shows all of us who we really are. And this is the parting of the ways: those who are pure in heart make mistakes, but take advice and go the divine path with Bruno, and those who aren’t pure in heart, who won’t take any advice, and who will in the end leave Bruno Groening because of some worldly advantages. It is through Bruno Groening that the roads part. We have seen this harsh division of opinion about him again and again and the new ones will notice this, too. There are the ones who are able to take in the faith that Bruno Groening will lead us to God, and there are the others who say ‘no.’ So Bruno Groening is to one group of people as a red flag is to a bull. We can, in awe, only guess at what this means for the future, if he talks about a book in which all names will be written. Everyone is and remains responsible for all his deeds here on earth. But Bruno Groening’s ‘being here’ on this earth is of extreme significance. Who has helped him with a pure heart to establish this divine work here on earth? What did he do for it? Who has opposed this work? Those are the questions for the present and the future! The Work of Bruno GroeningBruno Groening’s work is open for everyone, regardless of confession, nationality or colour of skin. In the year 1954 he said to us: ‘I am building a house all over the world.’ His mission was to equip everything in this house so marvellously that each one who is allowed to live in it can feel comfortable. She or he can use any of the equipment, can move about freely, can learn, and can live according to the law of God. Bruno Groening has opened the door of this divine house for each human being. Those who are willing to leave the path of suffering may enter this house and follow the divine path until they arrive where they really have belonged since the beginning of time. Bruno Groening gave this gate to his Friends, he put it into their hands (a doorway shaped like a bow, made out of tinfoil paper). And he also handed the doorway to his Friends for the communities. The community is and remains the home for the people seeking help, for the Friends, and for those who want to work for Bruno Groening’s work. So it has been taken care of that this work is continuing for all future. Bruno Groening was a human being who was very different from all of us. He once said to me: ‘I have taken you all into my heart.’ During the last 25 years we have begun to understand and feel a small part of what he was able to do, things which are open to everybody by nature. We can take into our hearts as well the ones we love. We can do a lot if we let ourselves be led. We all guess now that something lies dormant in us. With Groening, of course, everything was fully awake and fully developed. And it was just this that not only amazed us, but made us feel infinitely good. For a long time we didn’t realize that he really took it seriously when he said: ‘I am nothing, our Lord is everything. Don’t thank me, always thank our Lord. It isn’t me who makes things happen, it is the Lord our God.’ Yes, in those last 25 years we all have begun to realize that we are nothing, know nothing, and can do nothing out of ourselves, and that he, Bruno Groening, is a real model for us. Yes, because he has totally taken in our Lord, because he has devoted himself to God, because he only listened to Him, because he followed the divine path, because he only believed in the Good and never did anything evil. He told us also: ‘People call me master, well, who is a master? Obviously someone who knows his trade. There are master fitters, master tailors, master joiners, etc. I wish you to become masters of life!’ In Bruno Groening’s work it is possible for the help-seekers and Friends to go successfully through all stages of the school of life. This is the aim Groening has set for us. Bruno Groening is the Teacher, and we may be his pupils.
