Healing from opium addiction

T. A. (29), Tiraspol (Moldavia)

I started to smoke pot in the army in 1992. In 1994, opium was added to that which I injected, as well. That's the drug I stuck to when I left the army and I spent a lot of money on it. I was like a marionette and couldn't keep away from the opium, also because the people in my environment didn't help me with my escape attempts but rather offered me drugs again and again. That way I took opium almost daily for over four years, depending on how much money I had.

In December, 1997, I was introduced to Bruno Gröning's teaching. Soon I felt an inner aversion to opium and did not want to meet with my friends to smoke drugs anymore. Since March, 1998, I am free. I don't even think about the drug anymore.

Psychologist's commentary

Mr. T. A. made his first experiences with drugs in the army. Out of apparently harmless smoking of pot an addiction to opium ensued, which advanced from smoking to injection of the drug to heighten the effect. Mr. T. A. underestimated the potential of addiction; he thought that he could control his use of drugs on his own and that he could get away from the addiction any time. But that was not the case. The drugs were his masters and determined his daily life. After the contact to the Bruno Gröning Circle of Friends and the attendance of the community hours, Mr. T. A. felt safe from the drugs, he could escape from the opium's power.
